PSYCHIATRY VERSUS THERAPY...WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

Those who specialize in psychiatry evaluate, diagnose and treat mental health disorders based on criteria from the DSM-V.  Treatment often includes a combination of medication, therapy (often referred out of office), and behavioral interventions.  The main difference is that psychiatrists can provide medication, and therapists provide therapy.

What to expect during a visit with ronna

The first visit with Ronna is called a psychiatric evaluation or psychiatric intake.  This visit takes approximately 1 hour and includes an in-depth discussion about your social, medical, and psychiatric history, as well as a review of your current symptoms, and any assessment tools that were administered.  Finally, there will be a discussion about your diagnosis and a collaboratively formulated treatment plan.

Follow-up visits are 30 minutes and include a review of symptoms, medication and treatments prescribed.
